OpenAssistant uses credits to perform AI-powered tasks, actions, and workflows. Credits allow you to use your assistant for everything from simple chats and requests to more complex, multi-step workflows.
Paid OpenAssistant plans include a credit allocation for each user that refreshes at the beginning of each monthly billing cycle.
What uses credits?
Most tasks you ask your assistant to perform use credits. However, certain system workflows and features, such as your Daily Agenda, do not use credits.
How many credits a task uses depends largely on the complexity of the work your assistant performs.
For example:
Chats and simple tasks generally use very few credits.
More complex tasks that require multiple steps, research, file creation, or other actions may use more credits.
Recurring workflows that run frequently can consume more credits over time.
Complex workflows that perform several different tasks each time they run may use credits more quickly.
Because tasks can vary significantly, there isn't always a fixed credit cost for a particular request.
Task effort and credit usage
You can also control how much effort your assistant puts into a task by choosing Low, Medium, or High task effort.
Higher effort gives your assistant more resources to work through complex requests, but may also use more credits. Lower effort generally uses fewer credits and can be a good choice for simpler tasks.
This gives you control over the balance between the amount of work your assistant performs and the credits it uses.
View your credit usage
You can view your current credit balance and usage from the Credits tab in your OpenAssistant dashboard.
Here, you can see how many credits you've used and how many you have remaining.
When do my credits reset?
Credits included with your subscription reset at the beginning of each monthly billing cycle. Unused subscription credits do not roll over to the next month.
Credits that you purchase separately as a top-off do roll over and remain available as long as your subscription is active.
What happens if I run out of credits?
If you run out of credits, OpenAssistant will notify you. Your assistant will also let you know if it cannot complete a task because additional credits are needed.
You can add more credits at any time from the Credits tab.
Click Add Credits, choose the amount you'd like to purchase, and complete your purchase. Additional credits can be purchased in increments starting as low as $10.
Purchased top-off credits roll over from month to month and do not expire while your subscription remains active.
How do credits work for teams?
Teams have additional options for managing how credits are distributed and shared across users.
Depending on your team's settings, each user can have an individual credit balance, or your organization can maintain a shared pool of credits that users can draw from after using their individual allocation.
